INDIANAPOLIS – Amidst the craziness of the coming cost-free company period of time and the 2019 NFL Draft, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff is zeroed in on the most important priority for his staff proper now: ensuring Grady Jarrett stays a Falcon.
“We’re doing the job diligently on [a new deal for] Grady Jarrett, that is our concentration and that will continue to be our concentration proper now,” Dimitroff reported from the NFL Scouting Incorporate. “[I am] confident that that’s going to get performed.”
Jarrett has been 1 of the Falcons most effective defensive gamers for the earlier a few seasons. Atlanta’s defense sorely missed Jarrett’s existence when he was sidelined for two video games with an ankle personal injury previous season.
A defensive line without Jarrett wreaking havoc in the middle is not some thing the Falcons prepare on taking place any time quickly.
If the Falcons and Jarrett’s illustration do not occur to an agreement by March 5, Atlanta could apply the franchise tag giving both of those sides more time to negotiate. If the tag is placed on Jarrett, the Falcons and Jarrett’s camp have right until July 15 to agree on a multi-year offer. If they are even now unable to occur to an agreement by then, Jarrett would then play underneath a 1-year tag.
Another priority for Dimitroff this offseason is to re-negotiate Julio Jones’ agreement. Prior to the start of the 2018 season, Jones and the Falcons agreed a new agreement would be in put before the 2019.
All appears to be headed in the proper route for both of those cases.
“Julio Jones, [I’m] not apprehensive about it, [we] even now do not have a timetable on that, [but] we’re in a really fantastic put with Julio,” Dimitroff reported. “By seasons get started, we will be in a fantastic put with him as nicely.”
Jones caught 113 passes for a league-top 1,677 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2018 season.
